Below is a brief description and history of Ceroc, but if you have any specific questions, why not visit the Chat Forum's Beginners corner and either ask a question or read the many current discussions...

  • Short history of Ceroc:

Short History – Modern Jive is based on Rock and Roll which was first introduced into France by the American GIs at the end of the Second World War. Since the early 80's Ceroc classes have developed their own unique style which makes modern jive easy to learn and great fun. Besides this, it is a fantastic way to keep fit and a very sociable way to spend an evening. No need to bring a partner or book a course, just turn up on your own or with friends and enjoy a complete night out. There is a large selection of venues to choose from in Scotland and throughout the UK.

  • A typical Ceroc evening:

A Ceroc night starts punctually with a beginners class of 45 minutes. You will learn some fun moves that are surprisingly simple. At many of our nights there are 'Taxi Dancers' on hand who will be able to go through the moves with you and provide useful hints so that you will soon be dancing with style and confidence. There is then a short break followed by the more challenging Intermediate class. This is an ideal time for Beginners to sit back and watch whilst having a drink at the bar. We normally recommend that you should have completed around six Beginners classes comfortably before attempting to move up to the Intermediate level. After about 30 minutes the Intermediate class is over and your night out really starts when the Ceroc DJ takes command of the 'Freestyle Session'. This is up to an hour and a half of pure uninterrupted dance where you can improve your dancing and soak up the atmosphere... It's addictive!

  • Why Ceroc teachers are the best:

With the confusing number of new forms of Modern Jive appearing every day, Ceroc remains the best and fastest growing dance in the UK thanks to the strong emphasis placed on teacher training. All Ceroc teachers are members of the Ceroc Teachers Association (C.T.A.) and go through 18 months of training before becoming fully qualified teachers. All teachers also have to attend 2 courses a year to update and refresh their knowledge of Ceroc moves (currently over 500). We believe that by concentrating on professionalism, we can offer you a quality night out yet unmatched.
